The builders of New Hollywood: László Kovács

A Hollywood crew are filming a Western in a small Peruvian village before they return to the US, leaving the film set intact. One of the crew members, Kansas, decides to stay and although initially he feels he has discovered paradise, he quickly becomes entangled in psychedelic experiences that become ever more terrifying. The locals take over the empty set and begin ritually ‘filming’ their own movie. It is incredible to think that this Dennis Hopper work was made in a Hollywood studio since the young actor-director who idolized Godard smashed virtually every filmmaking convention in the course of shooting. The images of cinematographer László Kovács make the breaking loose of time and madness unforgettable.
