Introducuion by: Endre Dózsa, Analogue film preparator, NFI – Film Archive

Márta and André love each other but the whole world seems to be conspiring against them. The woman is trapped in a loveless marriage, while the man’s money-hungry brother is after his fortune. One day, André disappears amidst curious circumstances. Two years later, Márta has a visitation from his spirit… Alfréd Deésy based his spine-chilling, breathless and decidedly modern film on the novel by Gaston Leroux. Its restoration in 2024 was conducted by Cinémathèque royale de Belgique – CINEMATEK, La Cinémathèque française and NFI – Film Archive and Filmlabor, with the backing of ACE.
