The Sky Over Budapest – Focus on Wim Wenders

Q&A with Wim Wenders, film director

“Ozu is the only director I have learned from. His way of telling stories was, in the most absolute sense, representational. This is also my concept of cinema, and when I first came across it I realized that there was already a tradition behind me,” said Wim Wenders. Tokyo-Ga is an Ozu film and at the same time a Tokyo film. The European director is amazed about a distant culture while searching for traces of the filmmaker who had died two decades earlier. These are interviews with Ozu’s former colleagues and the discovery of a metropolis through the eyes of Wenders.
